Take the opportunity today to start an affirmation mantra.

Hiya,

This is kind of old school but I think it’s well worth doing. I’ve been doing it for years now and I’m absolutely convinced it has a positive effect on my daily attitude. “Every day in every way I’m getting better and better.” That’s a standard one created by the French psychologist Émile Coué.

At first it might feel a bit silly and a bit contradictory to how you’re feeling but stick with it. Do it in the morning and the evening when you are in a favourable physical and mental state. When we tell ourselves we feel a certain way over and over our subconscious begins to accept it as truth. The obvious example is the negative statements some people use; ‘I’m so fat.’ or ‘Nobody cares about me.’ or ‘I’m stupid.’ That’s a self fulfilling prophecy right there. As they repeatedly tell themselves those things their subconscious finds reasons to accept it. It recognises the behaviour of people around (which are often negative aswell – misery loves company right!) and reasons; ‘Hey, that person agrees with me’ or ‘That person is horrible to me’ etc. thereby making the statements true. Well if it works for negative statements it stands to reason that it’ll work for positive ones too. Give your subconscious the idea that you are confident, imaginative, creative, admired, loved etc. and it will find reasons to accept that.

You can only give it a go and see for yourself. Try it every day for a month and see if you notice a difference. Farther along I’ll give you another technique to use which magnifies the effect, but you need to create the habit first. Start each statement with “I am…” as this puts it in the present tense as if it already is that way.

Enjoy

Stu

  1. Great idea! I love positive affirmations. I may use them at the beginning of my workshops. I’m teaching self-reiki, reflexology, meditation techniques, journalling, brain gym and balancing the chakras using crystals. Now I will add affirmations. Thanks!

It is true negativity breeds negativity, I personally try not to be negative, obviously negative things will happen in our lives that we have no control over, but we must find a positive way out. If we stay positive and make our desires known to ourselves they do indeed come true, I know it is sometimes easier said than done.
    Great Post Stu

    • Thanks Jim, as you say – it’s how we react to negative things happening in our lives that makes the difference. And it is certainly easier said than done – for all of us!! 🙂

  3. I open my heart to the wonders and joys of God’s world. I am filled with gratitude and grace for all that life has to show me.

  4. Good post, Stu. I believe in personal mantras. One I have used for years is, “I am happy, healthy, strong in body, mind, and spirit.”

Mantras are excellent.i use them in my meditations. One of my teachs told me to stare at myself in the mirror and say, “I am beautiful. I am smart. I can do anything.” it really did impact how I saw myself and my daily attitude. 🙂

    • Hi Kourtney, I agree. Over the years I’ve been doing mantras amongst other things, I can honestly say they’ve had a hugely positive impact on my outlook. Others might find them floopy, pointless or even silly – but I swear by the effects they’ve had on me. 🙂

  6. Will do..thanks for sharing..wonderful mantra!

  7. Nothing silly about it. Old school or not, it is so worth every bit of doing, trying, doing, trying, doing…Thanks for a wonderful affirmation, Stu.

  8. Hi Stuart, I’ve been using a mantra for quite some time. I learned about the practice in college and have continued to use it ever since. I’ve found it helps to replace negative thoughts and reframe my thinking when I get caught up in worries “of the world”. A constant positive attitude never hurt anyone as far as I know 🙂 Thanks for sharing your continued positive outlook!

    • Thanks Linda, exactly. To all those naysayers out there – what can it hurt? Keep those affirmations going. Soon I’ll reveal how to magnify their effect! 🙂

  9. Hello Stu,

I love this post – I wrote one myself a while back that stated the Power of the Word and I AM statements – this is how I start my day –
    I am happy
    I am healed
    I am healthy
    I am blessed
    I am love
    I am joy
    I am financially free
May the possibilities of today excite me!

There you have it – it works!
    In love and light,
    Nancy

    • Superb. Some theologians translate Yhaweh as meaning ‘I am that I am’. So the words ‘I am’ really are that significant. It’s a declaration to ourselves that we ‘believe’ that we are…[fill in the blank]. Excellent mantra Nancy. 🙂

  13. It reminds me of Charles F Haanel’s offering in “The Master Key” –
“Every hour of every day I’m getting well in every way”
