Which mood – which album?

Hiya,

My daughter texted me this interesting and thought provoking question this morning.

At first glance it seems quite frivolous, fun but nothing serious.

But hang on. Aren’t we defined by music in very profound ways. When we’re suffering from a broken heart we turn to music (even though it can make us feel worse!). When we want to let our hair down we break out the dance music or the rock music. If we have friends around for dinner don’t we put something nice on the iPod to chill to?

So, my answer to the above question would actually change on a daily basis. Here’s the albums I’d choose depending on what mood I was in that day, would love to see what your choices would be:

Dance mood: Off The Wall – Michael Jackson

Easy listening mood: Seasons Of My Soul – Rumer

Jazz mood – Kinda Blue – Miles Davis

Meditative mood: I Giorni – Ludovico Einaudi

Rock mood: Desolation Angels – Bad Company

Melancholy mood: Trouble – Ray Lamontagne

Soulful mood: True Love – Al Green

And that’s only scratching the surface!

Enjoy

Take the opportunity today to let go of any grudge you feel.

Hiya,

Do you hold any grudges? Think about that for a moment. A grudge can
lay hidden, sometimes for years. Think for a moment.

If you have found one, think about the person you hold that grudge
against. Notice how you feel as you imagine their face. Feel that hurt
– just for a moment.

Now imagine that person as a child. See them playing, running,
laughing. See them falling and hurting their knee. Imagine you go to
that child and you ease their pain, comfort their tears. You help them
to their feet. You rub their hurt knee.

Imagine they stop crying and return to playing. See if the feelings
you had about that person have changed at all.

There is a small child in every one of us.

Take the opportunity today to ‘scramble’ a bad memory.

Hiya,

One of Tony Robbins’ many psychological techniques is the NAC (Neuro
Associative Conditioning) Process. One of those techniques deals
with bad memories. He refers to it as ‘scrambling’.

The process is supposed to rewire that memory so that it no longer
gives you the bad feelings associated with it.

The idea is you rerun the bad memory as if it were a film. Imagine
seeing it from different angles, edit it so it seems like you’re
watching it on a cinema screen. Then change the characters in the
memory to cartoons, including yourself. Run the memory forwards and
then backwards. Do this over and over a few times speeding it up as
you do so. Then change the colours of the faces to rainbows and add
some comical music.

Have the antagonist in the scene go crosseyed and have a speech bubble
above their head filled with the words ‘Blah, blah, blah!

Do this and your neural pathways connected with that memory will
become scrambled and it’ll be almost impossible to remember that
experience the same way ever again.

If you have some memories that play in your mind over and over, giving
you feelings you’d rather not have, have a go at this. It might take a
few attempts but it’ll be worth it.

Take the opportunity today to write the opposite of those frustrations from yesterday.

Hiya,

OK – this is where this exercise becomes really interesting and even
more useful.

Let’s say you wrote a frustration like this:
I’m frustrated that I can’t choose which goal to pursue first.

The opposite would read something like:
I understand fully which goal to pursue first.

Now do that for every frustration you wrote.

Here’s the next bit (and fun bit)…
… burn the first list of actual frustrations! Safely of course.
This symbolic gesture speaks to the unconscious mind. It says you
don’t value those ideas, so you’re going to replace them (with the
positive list), then destroy them.

Read your new list of affirming statements every day when you get up
and last thing before you go to bed. The reason is, that is when you
are either coming out of Alpha state or about to go into Alpha state.
Alpha state is when you are most suggestible, so those new affirming
statements are more likely to sink in.

I do this religiously now and each day I notice some more than others.
They stand out more. They mean more. This is insight happening right
in front of your own eyes. Do it – you’ll see!

Enjoy
