Mary Maxwell on Getting Old

Hiya,

My sister sent me this short hilarious video this morning and I had to share it. It will cheer your day and may even give you a lump in your throat. After all, if we’re lucky – we’re all going to get old.

Stop ‘messing about’!

‘Stop Messing About!’

Hiya,

I remember teachers and other adults telling me this when I was a kid.

It didn’t stop me then, and it doesn’t stop me now.

Why is it that when we grow up we’re supposed to view ‘fun‘ as something infantile, or unsophisticated, or unprofessional? OK, it can be under certain circumstances and in certain situations, but generally we’re not having enough fun in our lives.

Today I went to the post office and while I was there I bought some milk from the little store. The cashier asked me if I wanted a ‘little’ bag – I replied: ‘Oh, yes please – one this size.’ I held my fingers up as if I was holding a small coin – just as a bit of FUN! The cashier immediately joined in, scrabbled about for a moment under the counter, then produced a change bag – the ones you put coins in for the bank. It was still bigger than the space between my fingers so she said: ‘Hold on’, screwed it up into a ball and placed it where my fingers were still holding the imaginary coin in mid-air.

We both laughed as she said: ‘That’s pretty good service wouldn’t you say?’ And it was. We both had some fun at no expense to ourselves or anyone else.

Another example: last week I parked in a multi storey car park whilst I went to a restaurant for lunch. I had to pay in the machine as I left. The machine has a red button with ‘Information’ written on it. Everytime I park there I do the same thing…you guessed it! I press the button and ask a random question. That day, when the attendant buzzed through asking if he could help me I asked: ‘What’s the capital of Peru?’. He immediately replied: ‘P’.

It wasn’t what I was expecting and we both had a laugh. ‘Anything else I can help you with?’ he queried. ‘No thanks, that was it.’ I replied and we both had our day brightened.

How hard is that?

Yeah, sometimes people well get grumpy with you for ‘messing about’ – but most will enjoy the banter.

Have FUN

How to be truly selfish

Hiya,

Seem odd??

Let me explain…
When we help someone else achieve or feel something, we help ourselves in the same way. Neale Donald Walsch said something like that and he was spot on.
The right kind of person helps others because in doing so they help themselves feel good.
The right kind of person encourages others because by doing so they encourage themselves.
The right kind of person comforts others because in doing so they receive comfort.
The right kind of person loves others because by doing so they feel loved.
So true selfishness is being the best person we can possibly be at all times because we reap the benefit from the thoughts we have, the words we say and the actions we take – when they are focussed on helping and serving others. It’s kind of like the whole giving is better than receiving thing except, in reality, giving IS receiving.
So, how truly selfish can you be today?

Take the opportunity today to write down a lesson you’ve learned.

Hiya,

By analysing a lesson you have learned in the past you will automatically discover how you did it. Writing what you learned is a powerful first step. By writing it you get it out of your head and into some sort of order on the page. From there it can be re-ordered, re-read and re-alised.

It will become apparent what the process was and you’ll be able to apply that knowledge to other lessons you may need to learn.

This is a good way to structure it;

1. Explain what your situation was before you learnt the lesson

2. Describe what happened that allowed you to learn

3. Explain what’s different now due to the learning

This will give you a start point to get the memories around it clear.

Enjoy

Take the opportunity today to say something nice about yourself – out loud!

Hi,

Having a healthy respect for yourself is a prerequisite for being
happy, healthy and content. It also gives you the capacity to have
respect for other people. When we see faults in ourselves but accept
them we are more likely to accept the fault in others.

Saying something nice about yourself ‘out loud’ simply reinforces the
acceptance. The more senses you can involve in a positive thought the
more experiencial it will be and the more real it is. Saying something
in your head is one thing, but out loud allows you to audibly ‘hear’
it and feel it (as your mouth moves).

If you want, go write it down too – that way you’ll be able to
‘see’ it. (Not sure how to shoehorn taste and smell in there!)

Take the opportunity today to ask ‘What do I need to stop doing?’

Hiya,

Some things will spring to mind immediately – drinking, smoking, eating fatty foods etc. But other things may require some consideration. Procrastinating, distractability, negative thinking, blaming, judging, laziness and a million others.

Give it some thought and you’ll identify those things that you know you need to stop. Discern if these traits are interfering with your level of fulfilment, happiness and satisfaction in life. You’ll find they are. Now decide to stop them one by one. It might be something you do in your relationships, in your business, your hobbies or even your habits.

It’ll take effort – everything worthwhile does.

Use your body to empower your mind.

Hiya,

Please take the time to watch this short 20 min video – it’s incredible evidence that how we think effects how we feel – literally! But it also works the other way around.

Your physiology affects how you feel by effecting your levels of cortisol and testosterone.

Learn how to control and use that to your advantage.

Take the opportunity today to follow a coincidence.

Hi,

When you experience a coincidence ask yourself why you noticed it?

We’ve all got a different take on what a coincidence is.

Some think it’s divine intervention. Some think it’s luck. Some think
it’s just one of a million coincidences that are happening every day.

I believe in the last one but it doesn’t matter which you believe. If
you want to take something from it, if you want to make it a useful
experience – ask the question above.

Find meaning in it. You may have to assign a meaning to it. Whatever,
just find a meaning. Do that every time you experience a coincidence
and you may find that those meanings start to add up to something.

Ponders, Quotes and Questions

Hiya,

Those on my list, either because they’ve opted in to my online video series  here  or enrolled in my 90 Day Home Study Program, receive a daily email from me titled ‘Ponders, Quotes and Questions’.

The idea of which are to stimulate thought, wonder, awe, amusement or simply a warm fuzzy feeling. The other day I posed the question: ‘What would it take for you to fall in love with your life?’ and asked those that were already, to share why. Below I will post those replies, unfortunately some wanted to remain anonymous and some didn’t want their responses posted at all.

I hope you enjoy these at least:

“Hi Stuart!

I am in love with life because my favorite people are in it and i
wake up every day in a life that involves them!

I am in love with life because life is in unconditional love with me!

Nadia :)”
