Bronze & Silver Medal Misery

Hiya,

The olympics 2012 is over!

Some world records were broken, many personal bests were smashed, and some athletes won the first medals their countries had ever received!

In amongst the celebrations though were others in misery as they failed to achieve any medals or even to get to the finals of their events. Others still, that achieved Bronze or even Silver and were miserable with that. A Women’s Korean Archer even won Gold and apologised to her country for doing it with a low mark of 8 – stating to the press that: ‘We don’t score 8s in Korea.’

This was quite surprising for me and got me thinking about expectations. We all have them, it’s what drives us forward, keeps us striving, helps us through the pain. But by being so attached to the outcome we rob ourselves of the joy of achieving anything less. How many athletes would have loved to go home with a Bronze medal but went back happy to take part but empty handed, as another came home miserable because they got a Bronze but went for a Gold.

Expectations are healthy, but being attached to the outcome is not – it is where suffering resides. Let’s be grateful for what we have, what we achieve and for the daily opportunity to do more. Let’s pursue our goals with vigour, determination and courage. But let’s also pat ourselves on the back for taking part, for taking on the challenge, for taking the risk – win, lose or draw.

Being happy can exist alongside dissatisfaction – that’s what makes us want to improve.

Take care and enjoy

Which book out sold ’50 Shades Of Grey’ today?

Hiya,

Today was my first book signing in Waterstones Book Store!

I have to say the staff at the Bracknell branch were absolutely brilliant – they were supportive and encouraging the whole day and kept me supplied with tea when needed. 🙂

In the end I out sold ’50 Shades Of Grey’ by 2 to 1! Yes, mine was the top selling book in the store today by a long way. Here, are some photos of my book ‘on the shelf’ – where it will be a permanent feature from now on, plus a few others. 🙂

Beautiful Photography Book!

Hiya,

Today I just wanted to review my daughter’s beautiful photography book because I know a lot of you love photography.

Every picture is taken with an iPhone and then manipulated with the various filters available through that.

Many are of everyday objects or scenes of beauty, but many are purely abstract (they’re the ones I love the best).

Please go here to take a look at the Preview option – you’ll be glad you did, some of the images are stunning. To find out more about Hannah’s work you can visit her flikr page: here

Take the opportunity today to ask yourself ‘How can I…?’

Hiya,

Bill Harris of Centerpoint fame talks about this in an interview he
conducted with Michael Beckwith. The idea is that you consider a block
that you have in your life, it might be a career thing, a relationship
thing, a money thing. Then you ask yourself: ‘How can I find a
solution to…?’ Your subconscious mind then goes off to find an
answer. It actually tries to find the solution for you.

Try it. Start with asking as you fall asleep and see if an answer has
come to you in the morning. Keep a notepad and pen by your bed so you
can write any ideas or inspirations down immediately.

Take the opportunity today to look through some of your old photos.

Hiya,

Since photography was invented the miracle of capturing a moment in
time touched people deep inside. The possibility of being visually
taken back to a memory became priceless. Soldiers went to battle with
a picture of their loved ones – the most valuable item they owned at
that moment. Those photos defined them. The fallen enemy soldiers
wallets would contain the same cherished images.

We all love the photos we own even though we’re in the film age, even though it’s so easy to look back at videos – photos retain their intrinsic value.

Once you have a photo you don’t need any device to play them on. You
just need eyes to see.
Replay some of those old memories, beautiful heartfelt moments, funny
laugh out loud moments, deep and meaningful moments. Reconnect with
who you are and what has shaped you through the miracle of your old
photos.

Enjoy
