Take the opportunity today to start an affirmation mantra.

Hiya,

This is kind of old school but I think it’s well worth doing. I’ve been doing it for years now and I’m absolutely convinced it has a positive effect on my daily attitude. “Every day in every way I’m getting better and better.” That’s a standard one created by the French psychologist Émile Coué.

At first it might feel a bit silly and a bit contradictory to how you’re feeling but stick with it. Do it in the morning and the evening when you are in a favourable physical and mental state. When we tell ourselves we feel a certain way over and over our subconscious begins to accept it as truth. The obvious example is the negative statements some people use; ‘I’m so fat.’ or ‘Nobody cares about me.’ or ‘I’m stupid.’ That’s a self fulfilling prophecy right there. As they repeatedly tell themselves those things their subconscious finds reasons to accept it. It recognises the behaviour of people around (which are often negative aswell – misery loves company right!) and reasons; ‘Hey, that person agrees with me’ or ‘That person is horrible to me’ etc. thereby making the statements true. Well if it works for negative statements it stands to reason that it’ll work for positive ones too. Give your subconscious the idea that you are confident, imaginative, creative, admired, loved etc. and it will find reasons to accept that.

You can only give it a go and see for yourself. Try it every day for a month and see if you notice a difference. Farther along I’ll give you another technique to use which magnifies the effect, but you need to create the habit first. Start each statement with “I am…” as this puts it in the present tense as if it already is that way.

Enjoy

You Can Do Anything!

Hiya,

My brother-in-law sent me this inspiring video this morning and I had to share it with you.

It really shows that when we apply ourselves, when we believe that we can do something, and then we act – we give ourselves the opportunity to prove it. Age doesn’t have to be a barrier, belief can overcome most obstacles.

By the way – it’s hilarious too!

Thanks Richard for the share.

Take the opportunity today to write a list of things that you are afraid of.

Hiya,

For some this will be a short list and others it will be longer than it should. I for one am afraid of dying before I achieve a lot more than I have right now for instance. But give it some real thought, take a bit of time over it and write down everything that comes to mind.

It may surprise you just how long or short it actually is.

It’s funny how identifying our fears can actually diminish them. Once your list is complete, read it a few times. Notice how you feel about each item. You may feel some are silly, others irrelevant.

This execise in itself may spur you on to tackle some of those fears, some of which you may only think you have. We define ourselves in many ways and one way is through our fears – I’m afraid of heights, or spiders, or flying, or open spaces etc. Thing is, you may have been afraid once but that doesn’t necessarily mean you still are.

Find out which it is today.

Enjoy

Take the opportunity today to get in touch with your envy.

Hiya,

Most people are envious in some way or another of someone else. We love the house they live in or the car they drive or the partner they’re with or the lifestyle they lead yada yada.

Then the guilt button might go on. Often people feel bad for feeling envious. There’s no need. Envy can be a good thing. Envy drives us on to create the same in our lives. Envy can be the fuel you need to reach your goals. Envy can be useful.

Jealousy however is envy’s darker sibling. Jealousy wants what someone else has. Not something the same or similar but actually what they have. Jealousy leads to lies and deceit and resentment. In the worst cases it can lead to hate, anger and crime.

So the next time you want what someone else has consider whether you are being jealous or envious. If it’s the latter, allow that to spur you on to get the same. Use what they have as a model. Even go as far as to ask them how they got what it is you want.

Good luck.

Take the opportunity today to write down 10 achievements you are happy with in your life.

Hiya,

Every now and then we all need reminding of just how far we’ve come. What we’ve achieved, where we’ve been, what we’ve done and who we’ve shared it all with.

If you’re one of those people that think that your life has been a waste up till now, do this exercise as soon as possible. No need to stop at 10 either. When you’ve finished, read the list aloud and be proud of who you are. Now consider what you still can do, be, have, experience etc.

There’s a whole lot of life out there – go get some!

As Thomas Edison once said:

“If we all did the things we were capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves.”

Take the opportunity today to start over.

Hiya,

You know what it is you need to start over. Think about it for a while and it will become apparent. Let it go and start over. It’s not quitting, it’s not letting it get the better of you. It’s giving yourself the chance to move on, start anew.

A change is as good as a rest’, they say.

There’s no point flogging a dead horse’, is another one.

Sometimes you have to realise when something has come to it’s natural end, spending more time on it really is a waste of time. It’s hard to move on I know, I’m definitely one for trying to make something work but sometimes it’s like giving the kiss of life to Tutankhamun’s mummy – it’s pointless!

It could be a project you’ve been working on, it could be your job, it could be your relationship or one you’re trying to get in to. Think about it today and consider if it’s a waste of time, consider whether it’s time to start over.

Take care
