Back pain, headaches? – Listen to this NOW!

Hiya,

This is a blog about changing your life. It could be in your relationships, your health, your career, your goals etc.

Well today I wanted to share this powerful (and amusing) interview between Howard Stern and Dr John Sarno – a US  doctor that explains how much of the chronic pain we sometimes suffer have no physical cause.

Relief from constant pain could change your life for the better in a more profound way than almost anything else. I know you are open minded enough to entertain the concepts talked about here.

Enjoy

How to heal that relationship.

Stuart Young, London, UK

Hiya,

If you’re part of my ‘Ponders, Quotes and Questions‘ group you will already have seen this today, but I really wanted to share it with my subscribers too – especially with Thanks Giving just gone and Christmas around the corner.

This is a time of year where good relationships get stronger and not so good ones can become even more tense and stressed.

So this was today’s Ponder:

“If you’re struggling with a relationship in your life, rather than look at what’s going wrong, find something really right about it.

Now see if there’s an opportunity to do more of that.

Ask yourself: ‘What little thing would I notice first if things were great between us?

Think about what comes up.”

Do you know what your preferred energy level is?

This is October 2nd of my book:  ‘How To Change Your Life One Day At ATime‘.

Take the opportunity today to notice where you might be self-sabotaging.

Following on from yesterday’s guide I thought I’d share another one of David & Kristin Morelli’s techniques, this time it’s about self-sabotage and how we can spot it.

The crux of it is the idea that we all have a preferred energy level. Whether you are feeling a bit low so you seek out some excitement or on a high so seek out an argument, both are utilised to reset our energy level back to the preferred setting.

Have you ever been on a real high after getting a raise from your boss or getting a date with a hot person or maybe you just had a great time with some friends, then you find yourself getting in to some silly row over something with a loved one? If that rings a bell give some thought to what your button is. What’s your trigger? Fear? Anxiety? Guilt?

Look and you’ll find it, then next time you can anticipate it ahead of time and maybe even nip it in the bud.

Enjoy

Is evolution random?

Hiya,

Following on from yesterday’s post about noticing our environment below is an extract from a coincidental email that dropped into my inbox this morning – very thought provoking…

“Recent experiments have shown that living organisms can evolve quickly to adapt to changing environments. Environmental stress can trigger a response which speeds up the cycle of reproduction while making the reproduction of genetic material “deliberately faulty” in such a way as to generate mutations which may prove a better fit to the new environment. This backs up Stephen Jay Gould and Niles Eldredge’s theory of punctuated equilibrium, which views evolutionary change as something which happens in bursts with long periods of stability. It also shows that Jean Baptiste Lamarck’s original theory of adaptive evolution is at least as relevant as Darwin’s and Wallace’s later theory of natural selection to a complete understanding of the evolutionary process.

The key insight of Lipton and Bhaerman’s book is that we can be conscious agents of our own evolution. They make a comparison between human beings and cells. Each of us experiences our self as a single human being, but we are really a community of cells operating autonomously but cooperatively, the self-interest of each requiring the survival of the whole. Now we stand at a comparable evolutionary threshold to that which separated single-celled organisms from the first multi-cellular organisms. For certain single-celled organisms there was a survival advantage in grouping together in communities. Eventually these communities developed a membrane around them and became a multi-celled organism. Originally all of the cells were the same. Later the specialisation of cells within the community of the organism allowed for more complex development. As human beings we are grouped together as members of a society, but we are still working, to some degree, at cross-purposes. When these communication problems are solved we can work together, like our cells, as a single organism pursuing not just survival but “thrival” as Lipton terms it.”

How easy is it to brightens someone day?

This is September 19th of my book:  ‘How To Change Your Life One Day At ATime‘.

Take the opportunity today to bake some biscuits or a cake and give to a neighbour.

You ever had a neighbour come around to yours with a freshly baked cake or some biscuits? It’s great isn’t it? Even if you haven’t, can you imagine how nice it would be?

Pass that on to someone else today – if you can’t bake or don’t have the time, buy a little pack of something from the shop and put them on your nicest plate and present them to a neighbour.

You’ll brighten their day! (And your own.)

Let’s face it it, a nice creamy chocolate cake does a lot for a lot of people; it does for me! ” – Audrey Hepburn

When was the last time you let your hair down?

This is September 5th of my book:  ‘How To Change Your Life One Day At ATime‘.

Take the opportunity today to organise a party!

Sometimes we all need to let our hair down. Have a party!

Even if you can’t have one right away – organise and plan one. Just the act of planning will excite you.

In my youth I went to and had many parties. Some were a bit dull and some were fantastic. I was always excited about going and nearly always glad I went. If they were my parties then the clearing up was always a bit painful granted. If you end up having friends stay over at least you get help with that part.

Even though a party can be a lot to organise – remain excited about the process.

Enjoy

This could be one of the most rewarding things you do this year!

This is August 30th of my book:  ‘How To Change Your Life One Day At A Time‘.

Take the opportunity today to write a letter to one of your parents.

Now I don’t know what your relationship is like with your parents. But to be honest it doesn’t matter whether it’s good or bad, close or non-existant. Even if you’ve never met your parents or parent. Even if your parents or parent are no longer with us. Put pen to paper and what you want to say will come pouring out. It might take a while. You might have to just write – something, anything, but when it starts it will pour out.

This will be a cathartic exercise. It might be painful, it might be joyful but it will be rewarding.

You may decide to post the letter afterwards or you may not. If you don’t want to, I would suggest you put the letter in an envelope marked ‘To Mum’ or ‘To Dad’ or even  ‘To Mum & Dad’ and post it. It will never get to them but you will have symbolically sent it.

Enjoy
