What do you like about your job?

Stuart Young, London, UK

Hiya,

Take the opportunity today to consider your job and find three things you’re happy with.

1. I’m quitting soon, or  2. the toilets are clean, etc. – do NOT count! 🙂

I understand this might be difficult for some. Try it though and see if you can ‘honestly’ find three things that you are happy with about your job.

This could be the start of you appreciating it for what it is. We’ve all heard the grass is greener right? Maybe if you stopped looking at what is ‘wrong’ with your job – just for today, you might find there’s a lot you actually like.

It must start with you, all of your happiness, contentedness, peacefulness etc. comes from the way you think about your circumstances.

If you get to the end of today and you really have struggled to find 3 things you like – you need to read my new eBook: “Do You Hate Your Job?“. It’s not very long, but it is laser focussed on helping you understand what you must do next.

The 3 Questions People That Hate Their Job Ask…

3 Questions You Probably Ask...

3 Questions You Probably Ask…

Stuart Young, London, UK

Hiya,

If you are dissatisfied with your job at the moment you are probably asking one of 3 questions:

  • 1. How can I enjoy my job more?
  • 2. How can I find a new job?
  • 3. How can I set up my own business?

Let’s look at them one at a time…

1. You might ask how you can enjoy your job more because you either like your work but just dislike who you’re working for – which could mean your immediate boss, your colleagues or maybe you dislike the department you’re working in. So how do you change that?

2. You might be wondering how you can find a new job because you have the same issues as number one, or you’ve come to the conclusion that you don’t actually like what you do. This could lead to a complete career change, so where do you start?

3. If you don’t want to continue working where you are now but can’t envisage being satisfied working for anyone else, then setting up on your own, either doing what you do now, or doing something completely different seems like the most desirable option. Again, where do you start?

Thankfully, my new eBook “Do You Hate Your Job?” deals with each of these issues one by one. So whether you find yourself asking question 1, 2 or 3 – the book will help you get clearer about what to do next.

And it just so happens you can get a f.ree copy right now right here. 🙂

What are you waiting for, 2014 is ticking away fast!

Enjoy

Getting To Grips With Fear And Confusion

Hiya,

This is another extract from my new eBook “Do You Hate Your Job?” which is available for f.ree right now here.

______________________

Getting To Grips With Fear And Confusion

If you do decide to find a new job, new career or start up your own business know that there may well be fear and confusion along the way.

Learn to accept that, learn to understand that growing as a person is happening alongside this journey of following your passion, dream or goal. Sometimes you have to take the hit. If you want to go into events planning but don’t have the experience, why not get a job just helping other planners set their events up and learn how they do it from the ground up.

If you feel totally stuck or paralysed by fear or doubt – get calm. Sit still, breathe deeply and slowly and reconnect with your intuition, excitement, creativity and imagination. Trust yourself.

Accept that you won’t know all the answers, accept that you will have to take risks and above all accept that you may fail along the way. This is part of the journey. If it was easy everyone would do it – but they don’t. This is the road less travelled, this is the path to success, the difficult path but the one that leads to more fulfillment, contentedness, happiness, joy and ultimately life.

I did it, in fact I’m still doing it. Yes, I still have doubts and fears and I still find myself procrastinating from time to time. But at least now I’m aware of what’s going on and how to change it.

And remember to give yourself a break. It’s normal to be afraid, it’s normal to be unsure. Rather than chastise yourself for these negative feelings, acknowledge them. Sit with them for a while. Listen to what they’re trying to tell you. Then question if you agree with them or not.

Feelings are natural – accept them, allow them. If you want to know the strategies and tactics to change them… read on.

Here’s a great tactic for alleviating fear which I learned recently from Cameron Von St James and his incredible wife Heather.

Eight years ago, Heather was diagnosed with mesothelioma; a rare cancer that kills most people within 2 years of diagnosis.

Each year, they gather around a fire in their backyard with their friends and family, write their biggest fears on a plate and smash them into the fire. This symbolic gesture actually has a powerful psychological effect on our psyche. It says: ‘I don’t want these fear feelings and I’m ready to destroy them.

They call this ‘LungLeavin Day‘ due to the operation that Heather had to endure. To find out more about this inspiring family and the help they offer others go here.

Stuart Young, London, UK

Hiya,

Today is the day!

You can grab your F.REE copy of my new eBook “Do You Hate Your Job?right here.

It’s subtitled: “How To Decide If You Can Fall Back In Love With Your Job Or Whether It’s Time To Quit.

It’s complimentary to my Ponders group and my blog subscribers for a full 2 weeks before going on sale on Kindle.

What this book will help you discover:

According to Deloitte’s recent Shift Index survey, 80% of people are actually dissatisfied with their job. They hate going to work most days.

If you’re still reading I guess that includes You. What a way to live – I should know, because I was in that situation for the best part of a decade. I felt like I had no options, like I was trapped. And even if I did find another job I’d be worse off.

This sucked all the enjoyment out of my work and I spent my days watching the clock whilst juggling 101 urgent things that needed to be done.

I also fell into the trap of hardly ever getting away from it – and even when I did take a holiday, I felt obligated to stay in contact whilst I was away. Crazy I know – but I bet this happens to a lot of people.

If this is ringing alarm bells with you this book will help you discover:

  • 1. If you are in the wrong job
  • 2. An understanding of your options
  • 3. The best way to make a big decision
  • 4. What your fears and doubts are based on, and…
  • 5. How changing your Mindset will help you plan ahead

It’s a pretty succinct little book which aims to take you from where you are right now to a place of greater clarity about what you want and how to explore if you can get it.

Turning hobbies into cash!

Girl Abstract

Girl Abstract

Stuart Young, London, UK

Hiya,

One of the first things I did 10 years ago when I decided I hated my job, and that I was going to change that somehow – was look to my hobbies.

It was more about creating another income stream than replacing my job. It was just something I’d dreamt about for years but had never tried to realise.

The hobbie with the most potential for me was painting. I like to create abstract paintings. Friends and family were the recipients (mainly my sister), and they always encouraged me to pursue selling them – except my dad who just said: “What on earth is it? Who’s going to buy that?” Very encouraging. 🙂

So I started looking into ‘how‘ to sell them.

I went to galleries and art shops and eventually got some interest in a couple of pieces – if I could get them framed the art shop would try and sell them. As luck would have it, I knew of a framing wholesaler near to where I lived so I dropped them in.

A couple of days later I went back to collect them and got into conversation with the wholesaler about creating some paintings just for him.

Before long I was painting in every spare moment I had and the wholesaler was selling them as fast as I could paint them. Being a wholesaler he wasn’t paying me much but, I didn’t have to walk round dozens of shops and galleries. I didn’t have to leave paintings here, there and everywhere ‘hoping’ one would sell.

Instead I just painted and got paid.

To date I’ve sold over 600 paintings! A nice trickle of income.

Why am I telling you all this?

Because you may have a hobbie or two that you don’t think you can earn anything from, and you might be right. But it’s well worth getting out there and finding out. And broaden your view – think outside the box. The money might be in teaching that thing you do. Brainstorm ways in which others might want what you can do.

The excitement of pursuing my hobbie gave me motivation to try other things too – within 3 months I no longer worked in the job I hated.

Go make your own luck

Enjoy

Are you on an upward trend?

Are you on an upward trend?

Are you on an upward trend?

Stuart Young, London, UK

Hiya,

If you take a look at the financial markets you’ll notice there is an upward trend all the time.

Of course, here and there, from time to time, they go down – for a while. But eventually they pick up and continue to bounce back and continue to grow.

Life can often be like this – for everyone.

Everything is going along just fine, life is good, everything seems to be working out just dandy, then bam! A hitch. A stumble. Maybe even a fall.

At that point rather than thinking that everything has gone wrong, that your world is caving in, and nothing will be the same again – realise it’s just a blip on the graph.

Look back at your life, can you see any other blips? Trawl further and further back, surely there were some blips hear and there. You lost a job, a partner left you, or maybe you failed an exam etc.

You got over it right? At least I hope you did.

So here’s the thing, we must look at these blips as simply that: blips in an otherwise upward trend. A crest leads to a trough which leads to a crest and so on.

This perspective (bigger picture) may help you see that your present predicament is temporary and that You can choose to move towards the next crest.

Enjoy

Stu

🙂

PS: If you are having trouble reaching the crests, if you seem to find deeper and deeper troughs, then start somewhere. Your relationships, your health, your career. If it’s the last one then grab a no cost copy of my new eBook ‘Do You Hate Your Job?right here. And start reaching for those crests today.

The top two reasons an employee feels engaged

Stuart Young, London, UK

Hiya,

Here are the top two reasons an employee feels engaged:

  • #1 The extent to which employees believed that their senior management had a sincere interest in their well-being.
  • #2 The extent to which employees believed that they had improved their skills and capabilities over the previous year.

Do you feel engaged at work in either of those two ways?

As opposed to the top 10 reasons an employee hates their job.

Stay tuned over the next couple of days for details of how you can get your f.ree copy of my new eBook “Do You Hate Your Job?” – which shows you how to change the way you think about your present situation if any of the above relates to you.

Why we MUST fail and that’s good!

Stuart Young, London, UK

Hiya,

When you read that title: ‘ Why we MUST fail and that’s good! ‘ – how does it make you feel?

When we consider that we can never really know anything because as we gain more data on a subject we alter our hypothesis about it, we must then realise that even though we gather knowledge, when we make decisions they are at least partially (if not wholly) guesswork.

To make the correct decision one must evaluate ALL the data. As data is infinite, all decisions must be made based on limited data. Therefore, all decisions are snap judgements.” ~ Alan Watts  (Paraphrased)

We see this all the time in the form of history repeating itself. Apparently we learn so we can avoid the mistakes of the past but as we’ve already posed – our knowledge is ALWAYS limited so however many times we try to decide on an outcome we are only guessing and therefore we are open to failing.

When we do fail however, we get an opportunity to assess, then alter our next course of action – realising always that we are still guessing as our new direction may be worse than the last. Even so, it would be an indicator of how to next decide and so on.

In conclusion, it is inevitable that we fail. As long as we are continually assessing the circumstances we can continue to course correct for the future. At some point we may conclude or even stumble upon success.

We’ve all heard the story of Edison and the lightbulb. If he hadn’t already tried 999 ways to invent a commercially viable version of it – and failed, he wouldn’t have got to the 1000th CORRECT way.

We must nurture determination, resilience, resourcefulness and reflection.
