Do you know ‘why’ you’re thinking what you’re thinking?

August 17th of my book:  ‘How To Change Your Life One Day At A Time‘.

Take the opportunity today to be aware of your thoughts.

We each have countless thousands of thoughts every day, but how many are we actually aware of? Of course we’re aware of them as we think them but are we aware that we’re aware?

Sounds like a dumb question but bare with me a second.

When you have a thought about something or maybe someone, obviously you’re conscious of the act of thinking at that moment. However, the true awareness comes when you start to think about why you’re having that thought.

For example maybe you got angry seeing someone throw litter from a car, you had the thought of how ignorant they must be spoiling the environment like that. Now examine why you thought that. Could it be because you hate to see litter on the floor but it’s not your job to pick it up, so it’s going to stay there and make the place look dirty and untidy?

You may feel guilty that you too are going to leave it there. Or maybe you are affected by the laziness of the litterbug, you’re not lazy so why are they?

Whatever your thought is, think about why you’re having it. It might say more about you than you realise. Try and get past the justifying thoughts and get deep down into the core reasons why you think that way.

  1. do i know “why ” i am thinking what i am thinking …..
    the answer is YES …….
TO BE CONSCIOUS of the “why ”
(in my life) = well i run on my heart energy
so – the mind is absolutely silenced ………
    so “why”
because my heart leads my the way in my life x 🙂

  2. I think too deep…my mind is always scrutinizing everything…
I think sometimes this keeps me from being as free as I should be…
so this can be good and bad…just thinking!

  3. Hi Stu, most of the time I do not take the extra time to think of why, I think what I am thinking. I may think I know why, but taking the extra think time I may find more than I actually thought…. Wow that is a mouth full 🙂

Hi Stu… I love this one, despite the fact that you asked us all to get naked with you… you really do need a proof reader!! Lol. Anyway, I apoplgise for not responding lately to your ponders etc, but my computer is having awful problems and I, oft times, nod off before it manages to open up the chosen e.mail. I won’t repeat what I ‘think’ about that but my other pet-hate is dog-poo on the paths and verges! However, I do exactly what you sugest and question why I’m so mad… apart from the obvious that I might tread in it and walk it home, etc, etc. When I do really think about it, I have to admit that there are times when Daisy MUST have pooed somewhere but I don’t know where! I may have been texting or on the phone or, better still, watching something beautiful, like a bird, a deer or a rabbit. Anyway, now I am aware that I may not ALWAYS manage to find her doggie-doos, I’m far more forgiving of the ones I come across… in fact, I quite often bag it up or flick it into the undergrowth so no child can tread in it. I’m not sure whether it’s my ego that makes me feel better… (but when I feel smug I know it is)… or whether it’s just that I am not judging that makes me feel more peaceful. Whichever, I much prefer the peace to th anger anyday. x
