Now I don’t know what your relationship is like with your parents. But to be honest it doesn’t matter whether it’s good or bad, close or non-existant. Even if you’ve never met your parents or parent. Even if your parents or parent are no longer with us. Put pen to paper and what you want to say will come pouring out. It might take a while. You might have to just write – something, anything, but when it starts it will pour out.
This will be a cathartic exercise. It might be painful, it might be joyful but it will be rewarding.
You may decide to post the letter afterwards or you may not. If you don’t want to I would suggest you put the letter in an envelope marked ‘To Mum’ or ‘To Dad’ or ‘To Mum & Dad’ and post it. It will never get to them but you will have symbolically sent it.
Enjoy this process
