How To Measure Your Health

Man leaping with joy

Are you as healthy as you could be?

Hiya,

There are many ways to measure your overall health and wellbeing but it’s not so easy to find definitive descriptions of what that means.

For instance the top 5  body health indicators seem to include:

  1. Your BMI score, a poor score could make you susceptible to type 2 diabetes
  2. Your biological age, an unhealthy lifestyle can leave your body thinking it’s a lot older than you actually are.
  3. Waist measurement, a waist measurement of less then 94 centimeters for men and 80 centimeters for women is regarded as healthy as our vital organs are housed in our waist area.
  4. Blood pressure, the Heart Foundation considers a normal blood pressure to be less than 120/80mmHg. More or less than this can leave you open to heart disease and strokes.
  5. Heart rate, 60-100 beats per minute is normal for the average person’s resting heart rate. Higher than that could mean your heart is working too hard which could lead to heart conditions or stroke.

Obviously, a good, balanced diet and regular exercise are important to keep our bodies fit and healthy.

But over and above your body health is your mental health. How relaxed you feel on a  day to day basis, how you deal with adverse circumstances, how you think of others as well as yourself can all lead to positive or negative mental states.

At the end of the day we all want to live longer, but usually only if we can remain healthy, active and reasonably stress free at the same time. If we are parents, we also want to set a great example to our kids so that they grow up to live healthy, happy lives too.

It won’t be long before I hit 50 so this is at the top of mind for me. I don’t feel at my peak level of health and fitness at the moment, I’m pretty good but not tip top – so I’m on a mission to change that. If I want to feel fitter and stronger even when I’m 60 or even 70 then I better start NOW.

How about You? Are you as fit and healthy as you should/could be?

Enjoy

Back pain, headaches? – Listen to this NOW!

Hiya,

This is a blog about changing your life. It could be in your relationships, your health, your career, your goals etc.

Well today I wanted to share this powerful (and amusing) interview between Howard Stern and Dr John Sarno – a US  doctor that explains how much of the chronic pain we sometimes suffer have no physical cause.

Relief from constant pain could change your life for the better in a more profound way than almost anything else. I know you are open minded enough to entertain the concepts talked about here.

Enjoy

When did you last look at your diet?

This is September 13th of my book:  ‘How To Change Your Life One Day At ATime‘.

Take the opportunity today to eat only vegetarian food.

I used to be a massive meat eater. I would eat meat at least once or twice a day. Even now after being a vegetarian for a few years I can still appreciate the desire for a great peppered steak or venison stew.

The thing is it’s pretty much undisputed now that eating too much meat really is bad for the human body. It’s not used to it. The way we have evolved suggests for millennia we ate mainly fruit and vegetation with only the occasional meat or fish to supplement it. Many studies have proved that consuming too much red meat in particular leads to heart disease, cancer of one type or another and also promotes certain emotional issues such as hypertension and excessive anger.

On top of that we have now got to a stage where more land is set aside for producing meat products and the grain required to feed them than to agricultural land allocated for human consumption.

Give up meat, don’t give up meat, decide for yourself but just for today give your body and the planet a day off.

Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances of survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet~ A. Einstein

Can eating different foods combat prejudice?

JULY 22nd of  ‘How To Change Your Life One Day At A Time’.

Take the opportunity today to eat something new.

How many times have you sat down to eat the same old meal that you have time and again? We know what we like and we like what we know, right? But before you knew what you liked you must of just tried stuff.

Remember really enjoying the flavour of new wonderful food? Maybe you tried food from another culture. Usually when that happens you’re either in another country or your in an ethnic restaurant or you may be around a friend or colleague’s house. Either way part of the food experience IS the culture. It’s in the surroundings and the traditions. How many people do you know that want to use chopsticks when they eat Chinese food? I know I do. It just feels more authentic.

This very act can bring a new perspective on another’s culture and beliefs.

Anyway, foreign food is one way of trying something new but often there are foods from different parts of our own culture that we haven’t tried. Try some today and appreciate the culture difference aswell as the food difference.

Enjoy

Here’s a reminder of what some of my students have said already about the Program:

Josephine said: “[The Program]… has been the catalyst for relaunching myself on my chosen path. It has really made me think hard about what is going on in my life, …the things I tolerate, the things I detest and the things which are so important to me. I have been able to look at all of these things and recognise the importance which I’ve given to each one of them – negative or positive.

Gareth said: “Now I have completed the program I have come up with a plan to change the parts of my life I am not happy with, I know what direction I want to go in and have set out many steps to make this possible. My finances have gone from in the red to in the black for the first time in 14 years.

Niki said: “The program was instrumental in helping me structure my life and start heading in the direction of the things which mattered to me the most. I have learned so much about myself and who I really am that it quite frankly scares me to think I might never have discovered these things.

Hannah said: “[Since Completing The Program] I feel I find it easier to see things more positively, I surround myself with positive words, I speak positively, I know what I want out of life and that motivates me more to get it. I have changed for the better – but I still need to work on it.

Be sure to set your clock to make sure you are one of the lucky 47!

Enjoy

Transformation

Hiya,

We have been through the Re-formation age – the dictionary describes that as:

“Improving, altering for the better.”

We are journeying through the In-formation age – the dictionary describes that as:

“Knowledge communicated.”

Are we now ready for the Trans-formation age? – the dictionary describes that as:

“Change through Action.”

Are you ready to take action to Trans-form your life? If you don’t, what do you expect to happen? Do you think it’ll magically change on its own? We are entering a new era. The Information age has enabled us to create the Transformation we desire with greater speed than ever before.

There is an almost tangible awakening to personal potential happening everywhere. The tools, strategies, techniques, instruction, teachings and help of every kind are readily available. Often they are right in front of our noses.

Take action for your own Transformation today.

Enjoy

Take the opportunity to understand your WHY.

Hiya,

Do you understand your WHY?
I recently watched a presentation by Greg Habsritt where he talked about
how most companies market themselves based on ‘What‘ they do,
a smart minority market themselves on ‘How‘ they do what they do,
and a smarter, smaller minority market themselves on ‘Why‘ they do
what they do.
It got me thinking about my Why.
At the risk of sounding ‘schmaltzy’ – it really is because I want to
inspire as many people as I can to realise that they CAN do it, whatever
IT is, they just need to know HOW.
Why is that my why?Because I really believe that everybody has the potential to achieve their goals. (Yeah, yeah, blah, blah! – I hear you.)

But think about it – how many times have you heard of the rags to riches success stories? How many entrepreneurs left school early and went on to create massively successful companies? How many athletes overcame enormous odds and went on to fulfil their dream of winning a major competition?

If they did – You can.

My pet hate, something that really gets me grrr! and hits my challenge button – is people that make excuse after excuse for why they can’t do something.

I believe that every one of us has a passion, we have a purpose, and that passion and purpose when ignited, has the potential to not only change our lives, but the lives of all of those around us, all those that we know, and possibly the wider world.

I want to play a part in igniting those passions. I want to be the catalyst for as many people as I can. For those that think they don’t have the brains, or the looks, or the stamina, or the confidence, or the money, or the resources, or the network, or anything else – maybe you don’t, but that might not be what you need to reach your goal.

I believe we are all entitled to live our lives our way and achieve our dreams using our own personal skills, personality, resilience and gumption!

It’s why I took an entire year to write my book:

How To Change Your Life One Day At A Time‘.
It’s why I spent 6 months producing my 90 Day Program:
Change Your Mindset, Change Your Life‘.
It’s why I decided to GIVE that away, as a gift, to everybody that buys
a copy of the book during the launch.Together, the book and the program systematically change a person’s mindset into one that sees the possibilities, sees the opportunities, enabling them to believe that they can achieve their goals, their dreams and live more contented, purposeful, passionate, joyful, happy lives.

Am I going to get rich selling this book. Highly unlikely!

That’s not what it’s about. I already live an abundant lifestyle, I’m by no means rich but I do have certain freedoms earned by running my own business. And I value those freedoms. They give me the opportunity to follow my passion:- helping as many people as I can follow theirs.

So to recap:

My ‘What‘ – A book and complimentary program that’ll guide you to fulfil your potential. My ‘How‘ – By teaching you how to change the way you think and then giving you daily guides that will help you take inspired action. My ‘Why‘ – because I believe you CAN do it – you just need to learn HOW. And that gets me fired up in the morning!Come on, let’s all change the world in our own unique way!

Mark the 20th May on your calendar as launch day.

Take care

Stu

Take the opportunity today to start an affirmation mantra.

Hiya,

This is kind of old school but I think it’s well worth doing. I’ve been doing it for years now and I’m absolutely convinced it has a positive effect on my daily attitude. “Every day in every way I’m getting better and better.” That’s a standard one created by the French psychologist Émile Coué.

At first it might feel a bit silly and a bit contradictory to how you’re feeling but stick with it. Do it in the morning and the evening when you are in a favourable physical and mental state. When we tell ourselves we feel a certain way over and over our subconscious begins to accept it as truth. The obvious example is the negative statements some people use; ‘I’m so fat.’ or ‘Nobody cares about me.’ or ‘I’m stupid.’ That’s a self fulfilling prophecy right there. As they repeatedly tell themselves those things their subconscious finds reasons to accept it. It recognises the behaviour of people around (which are often negative aswell – misery loves company right!) and reasons; ‘Hey, that person agrees with me’ or ‘That person is horrible to me’ etc. thereby making the statements true. Well if it works for negative statements it stands to reason that it’ll work for positive ones too. Give your subconscious the idea that you are confident, imaginative, creative, admired, loved etc. and it will find reasons to accept that.

You can only give it a go and see for yourself. Try it every day for a month and see if you notice a difference. Farther along I’ll give you another technique to use which magnifies the effect, but you need to create the habit first. Start each statement with “I am…” as this puts it in the present tense as if it already is that way.

Enjoy

Take the opportunity today to adopt the Kaizen approach.

Hiya,

The Japanese coined the term Kaizen, but the process started in the US when France fell to Germany during the second world war. America realized if it were to be more prepared for wars in the future it must make more equipment and more weapons when needed at a faster rate. Those supplies must be available faster when a part of the work force was called for duty on the front. The US government created a program called Training Within Industries. One course from this program became the basis for what would be called Kaizen after US instructors were asked to teach the program to a Japan that needed to improve its output quantity and quality post WWII. The Japanese adopted it rapidly therefore a lot of people mistakenly believe that it was originally created there.

Basically, Kaizen is a system of continual improvement using small incremental steps instead of radical innovation (which tends to fail 75% of the time). Kaizen works because it does not press our fear button and does not stimulate the “fight or flight” impulse in us – a response controlled by the amygdala, found in our mid-brain. The amygdala shuts down creative thinking that could interfere with our physical ability to fight or run, often stimulated by change. Although crucial for survival, when we use small steps towards change this part of the brain does not register any significant threat and is bypassed. However, when we feel fear, access to the cortex is restricted which almost always leads to panic, stress, indecision or even shut- down (unless you are able to turn fear into excitement). When we set small goals, there is no fear, the cortex becomes engaged (that part of the brain where logical and creative responses are created) and we follow each step successfully.

Kaizen is a mindset; a way of approaching any activity in such a way that daily progress is developed. Tiny adaptations of behaviour can eventually have massive implications. Tasks can be broken down into smaller and smaller steps until each seems to have little or no effect on their own. Change happens so slowly that there is almost no awareness of it happening. Of course, you can still choose to make sudden and huge changes, Kaizen need only apply when you feel fear stalling your progress. When you feel that certain changes threaten your security or you just feel they’re too far out of your comfort zone. Move towards them still – just in smaller steps. The key is to keep moving.

Enjoy
